From Hollywood to Royalty, if there’s one name that represents exquisite elegance, it’s Valentino.
The legendary designer has created impeccable, classic gowns for the world’s most glamorous women, from Elizabeth Taylor and Sophia Loren to Sarah Jessica Parker and Gwyneth Paltrow.
Now a new London exhibition is bringing together more than 130 of his handcrafted designs, showcasing the intricate detailing that has gone into couture dresses.
Valentino: Master of Couture shows some of the world’s most recognizable gowns. The exhibition at Somerset House in London focuses on haute couture, luxurious hand-embroidered, sewn and even painted gowns.
Each gown literally took hundreds of hours of painstaking work to make. Highlights include an elaborate, pearl-encrusted wedding dress for Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece, which took 25 seamstresses and four months to complete.
Visitors will also see original sketches by Valentino, as well as videos showing the techniques that his seamstresses used in creating the garments.
The couture creations truly are a work of art for the very few women in the world that could afford to wear them. For the rest of us who have only drooled over magazines and dreamed of wearing Valentino, well here is your chance to catch a glimpse of a true fashion legend’s work.
The exhibition opens Thursday and runs through March
After moving to Miami this year I have major coat envy this year. Coveting this years coat collection I find myself spending hours on pinterest searching for winter reminders. Longing for hot cocoa, shear-ling slippers and colorful coats from tattered tweeds, faux fur to winter white or in every pattern, shape or hemline.
Jockstraps, Man-Bras, and Crotch-Grabbing Pants…Oh No!
Loco Yoko Ono premiered her new fashion collection, “Fashions for Men: 1969-2012” available at Open Ceromony, for a limited time only. Ravewear just got a little more crotch centric. This men’s line is inspired none other than by John Lennon. Huh?
The pieces were inspired by a gift, including a series of drawings and sketches that Ono gave to John Lennon, on their wedding anniversary in 1969.
“I felt it was a pity if we could not make clothes emphasizing his very sexy bod. So, I made this whole series with love for his hot bod, and gave it to him as a wedding present.” Ya, I guess I can totally picture John in a light up jockstrap for only $200..?
“You can IMAGINE how he went wild and fell in love with me even more!” she added. “My sophisticated, tasteful, and sensible friends across the world all scream – ‘We love it!'” The LED Nipple Bra sounds practical for night jog!
What’s with the butt motif? Or mesh derrieres cutouts? Which I will not post, for everyone’s sake.
Or the Bell Board – Is it a tank or necklace, someone???
In case the mesh long sleeved tee was a little too nippy there is an option that offers a little more coverage in strategically placed parts, for the modest man in your life.
Now the real question is….
Gents would YOU wear this?
Love it or Leave it?
Model, actress, iPhone case designer….? Whhhaaaat!?
Mischa Barton spotted unveiling her new line of iPhone 5 accessories for UK-based brand Uunique in London.
Uunique and Mischa Barton premiered their London Lotus iPhone case, which is adorned with 18-carat rose gold, pink and white diamonds, is the priciest on the market at $302,985. I’m sure someone will one up this pretty soon!
Who would spend that much cash for an iPhone case?!
Mizz Barton, who dressed in a gem-studded maxi dress with bejeweled head jewelry for event, said she wanted to take a fashionable approach to designing cases for the iPad and iPhone.
“We wanted to incorporate different types of embroidery and embossing and different fabrics. I see a lot of use for different kinds of fake metals and Perspex, fake wood, cork and plastics and to just see what you can do,” she said.
“Unique by Mischa” cases start at $40 and go up to $960 for a Swarovsky crystal encrusted model.
If money was no object, I still would never even think twice about getting the beddazzled techie accessory. Come on! You know how many times my kids have thrown my phone across the room or used it as teether.
This is what happens when you have way too much money that you don’t even know what to do with it?
Style Tip: Pick a local charity to give it to. I promise nothing will make you look so glam and feel so fab as helping those in need.
